Apartment Review for Dundale Square - Norfolk, VA

What can I possibly say about Dundale Square Apartments that a quick drive through the parking lot at night wouldn't say better than I.

Let me see, we have lived here for almost 5 months and this has to be the worst place we have ever lived (and we have lived all over the place due to the military). This place takes the cake though. Our second night in this apartment someone standing directly outside of our bedroom window started firing a gun (at 3:15am), which should have cued us for what was to come. This place is like a war zone. The man who owns a house behind our apartment has 5 fresh bullet holes in the back of his house. As recently as tonight someone across the "square" fired off a good 9 rounds (and it wasnt even dark yet). Now about the apartment complex itself. The maintenance here may as well not exist, nothing in our apartment has been repaired, unless we bought the materials ourselves and did the repairs ourselves. Our A/C is STILL broken, our bedroom window is still broken (due to someone trying to break into our apartment), our back porch light is still busted (from some of the "thug Olympics" that go on after dark...I could go on and on about the lack of repairs, but I know you are dying to hear about the management as well. Dont bother trying to request intervention from management for ANYTHING, they ignore the tenants UNLESS you happen to be 5 minutes late on your rent, then they want to get almost intimate with you. The laundry room smells like a porta john, and most of the time half the dryers are out of order or full of someones clothes. There is gang activity at all hours in the laundry room as well, not to mention the gang and drug activity that go on nightly here. Oh and did I mention that my husband was solicited by a prostitute and her pimp on Christmas day? Gives a WHOLE new meaning to "Ho Ho Ho". Also our darling neighbors, who must be mostly deaf AND employed by a nightclub for the hearing impaired, like to play their music loud enough for everyone to enjoy...late on a school night...so that our children will be sure NOT to get a good nights sleep. And if playing it at deafening volumes from their apartment isnt good enough they go to their car and play it from there as well, jacked all the way up and leaving all the car doors open so as to share the mind numbing sound of their systems with those of us who actually HAVE jobs that we MAY need to be rested for the following day. In a word this place SUCKS! Nothing gets fixed, complaints go ignored, the "neighbors" are rude and obnoxious (for the most part), you NEVER see law enforcement (though you hear sirens 24/7), there is NO extra parking and half the time your neighbors friends will relieve you of your own parking space, sometimes overnight and half of the next day. If you do manage to re-obtain your parking space, pray it isnt a weekend, thats when the "thugs" like to get drunk and lay all over your car or kick dents in the side of it like they did the poor little old man's car that lives a few doors down from us etc. I hate this place and even if you are DESPERATE, AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!!! It isnt worth it I tell you, pay the extra 200.00 a month and get a place in Virginia Beach...I swear hell has to be more habitable than this place.
