Apartment Review for Sewells Park Apartments - Norfolk, VA

First off, the area SUCKS! I will not let my wife go outside without me escorting her. It's no uncommon to hear gun shots fired in the area as well as hearing people screaming in the distance. The neighbors below us had the cops called on them MANY times and I suspect the other neighbors of dealing drugs! The roaches are a constant problem and the NEVER go away. This place predates world war II and LOOKS like it. The air conditioning costs and extra $65/month for this tiny apartment! It doesnt' cost that much extra to heat an entire HOUSE! But, what management doesn't tell you is the fact that the concrete construction keeps this place as hot as an oven all day and all night throughout the summer and cold as a fridge througout the winter. The maintenance team sucks! The first night I moved in, I had cold water. I called for assistance and they promply came over. The next day I had cold water again. It took the incompetant, although quick to respond, staff FIVE times to fix it! Then, I had to shower in near-knee-deep bath water because they couldn't figure out how to SNAKE A DRAIN! I had to finally do it myself! The stove doesn't work half the time, I have to light it with a match EVERY time it DOES work. When the heaters come on (and maintenance decides when that happens, not you), there's no thermostat, so you're either hot as hell with the windows closed, or you're cold as hell with the windows open in the middle of the winter! You get ripped off in this piece of nonsense hell-hole! You're MUCH better off getting a bigger apartment for the same price and just paying the extra hundred dollars for uitilites. At least you wouldn't feel like you're one of the roaches that will be your constant companions. I have thought about getting out of this apartment, but the thought of suckering someone into taking over the lease for me makes me sick to the stomach! I could never put someone through this willingly! THIS PLACE IS A BIG RIP OFF!
